Antenatal, birth and postpartum packs

Congratulations! This pregnancy may have been a complete surprise or a longed-for baby. In either case, you find yourself in the most important voyage of your life.

I celebrate you and your willingness to prepare to the best of your ability.

Pregnancy is a time of great happiness, though at times it can bring some anxieties. Each mother and each family is unique. For this reason, the personalised care from a midwife in all the perinatal period, defined as continuity of care, is essential to reduce anxieties towards pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and to improve health outcomes for mom and baby at short and long term.

With Midwife Cristina, I provide midwifery care tailored to your needs.

Pregnancy pack:

  • home appointments at the weeks 8/10, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 38, 40, 41, 42

  • each appointment includes fetal heart rate auscultation, blood pressure check, fundal height measurement (starting week 28), discussion of information relevant to your gestational age and your specific situation

  • manual extraction of colostrum (starting week 36)

  • birth preparation class and infant feeding class

  • continued support via Whatsapp

Latent phase support: (temporarily unavailable)

  • support at home in the first phase of labour (irregular contractions and cervical dilation less than 4/5 cms) before autonomously transferring to the hospital

  • the support includes the use of aromatherapy, massages, physical and emotional support

Postpartum pack:

  • home appointments after the birth at day 1/2, 3, 5, 7, 14, 21 and 28

  • each appointment includes the evaluation of the mom and baby's wellbeing, a feeding assessment and the baby's weight

  • continued support via Whatsapp

Infant feeding support:

  • home appointments to support breastfeeding, mixed feeding, bottle feeding, formula feeding, feeding with syringe, cup and SNS/ relactador

  • support with manual milk extraction or pumping using Hakaa and breastpumps

Tongue tie assessment and frenulotomy:

  • home appointment to assess a tongue tie, which affects infant feeding

  • if the assessment shows a reduction in tongue function, a frenulotomy can be done at home in the same appointment or by booking another one, according to the family's preference

  • 2 follow-up appointments after frenulotomy (at week 1 and 2)

The above packs can be modified according to individual needs. For example, you could have a pack of antenatal checks at home without birth preparation and vice versa. You could book single appointments during pregnancy and the postpartum period. You could book single birth preparation sessions or a chat to discuss a topic of your choice (for example, induction of birth).

Blood tests and scans will be done at your GP, health centre or hospital.

The birth preparation class includes:

  • phases and mechanisms of birth

  • how to cope and work with contractions

  • postpartum care for mom

  • postpartum care for baby

  • infant feeding
